The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

We present a challenge for those in enduring partnerships who appreciate the horror genre: Settle in with your significant other and stream Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its streaming debut via Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like typical body horror, but within Together lies a intense meditation about our choices in loving one another.

A Debut Feature Delving into Partnership Complexities

Together is the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It features actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have stayed together for a decade. Having wed in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a particular energy to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The plot starts when Millie and Tim move from the big city to the countryside for professional reasons. A familiar story element, sure, but that’s primarily where the conventions conclude. Together evolves into as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their country house, a storm hits, and the two tumble into an underground cave. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity starts to affect the duo. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The whole movie is a slow burn fright fest, weaving in bits of dreamlike terrors, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes amidst something grotesque). Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and wraps them up in a consistently growing atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is only the two lead actors, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is suffering due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his hesitance to focus on anything other than his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

Conversely, Tim feels trapped and cut off by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve moved to the country and distant from his social circle. He dreads the concept of utterly sacrificing his sense of self in another person. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie refrains from painting one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie confront the kind of problems that are inherent in any relationship after ten years. Fundamentally, they still love each other. They find humor with each other, provide solace, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these anxieties of codependency and fully committing to a partner, the allegory does not come across as hamfisted or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that single viewers have seen the movie as a strong argument for staying single. On the other hand, certain partners who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own interpretation could function as a revealing measure of how you think about commitment. Will the ending inspire anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply turn to your partner and state, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can undertake at this very moment.

Together is currently playing on Hulu's platform now.
